Professor’s Note:
It is often suggested in our so-called age of reason that American culture is moving toward atheism. However, News Week suggests that 91% of people believe in God while only 3% claim Atheism. Surprisingly, 82% of the respondents say they identify with Christianity. Yet the power of faith in America seems to have diminished. The depletion of faith in our country is largely because as Jude told us, we must “contend earnestly for the faith.” But, how do we argue for the kingdom of God when our American intelligentsia tells us that the Christian Faith and Reason are separate. Welcome to Christian Apologetics – the study of the defense of the Christian Faith. After this study you will be ready to give every person an answer of the hope that exists within you with genteelness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).

The Christian Apologetics Class
Theology -vs- Secularism

Course Description:
46 hrs. (23 Credits)   Defending the Faith 101. Sessions: 23
The term apologetics etymologically derives from the Classical Greek legal term apologia. In ancient times, when a person was accused of a crime (Kategoria) the defendant would give an Apologia (formal defense to rebut charges). Christian Apologetics is the study of how Christian writers were inspired by God to place the hope of our faith in the word of God. This course will provide an overview of Christian apologetics, which is the study of how to give an adequate defense of our faith (1 Peter 3:15). The course will address the importance of Christian spiritual development as a way of life, its application to the development of our personal faith and its exercise in the practice of defending the Christian faith. Apologetics topics to be covered and discussed include:

What is the Christian theory of knowledge?
Is there Evidence for God’s existence? (Atheism vs. Deism)
Was Jesus a real man? (Historicity of Jesus)
The scientific and historical reliability of the Bible.
The divine claims for the Lordship of Jesus.
Evidence for the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Authenticity and Historicity of the Bible.
